COMING FROM KUAOTUNU
YOU BETCHA!
KUAOTUNA’S
GOT TALENT
Move over X Factor! We take our hats off to
the shining stars who summoned the courage
to perform for a huge audience of appreciative
locals at Kuaotunu Hall on Saturday 28
September for ‘Has Kuaotunu Got Talent?’ No
doubt now: Kuaotunu has talent to burn!
A superbly organised team – Treeny Ford,
Kelly Simpson and Jannine Verner – hosted
the fabulous event, full of entertainment from
clever skits to singing. Emcee Christian Bianchi
kept the flow going, (as he does when throwing
a pizza at Luke’s) encouraging the young
performers to be brave and give it their best.
The three judge panel offered inspirational and
motivational comments for each competitor. A
particularly memorable humorous skit about a
duck, a ladybug and a hotdog was presented
by sisters Meila and Devon Quest. Their comic
timing was amazing for ones so young.
Prizes, donated by local businesses, were won
by the girls: 1st Elysia Orams-Mclean; 2nd
Mckayla; 3rd Erna Kregting, with high marks for
Hannah Coleman-Smith and Juliette Lidgard.
Elysia and Hannah (only 11 years old) received
extra praise for having written their own songs.
They both also accompanied themselves,
Elysia on guitar and Hannah on ukulele.
Among the boys, Teague McMikken and Ryan
Verner received highly commended prizes.
After the kids had been taken home, some
talented adults braved the stage with hilarious
skits, ‘oldies but goodies’; and great toe-
tapping tunes that spurred the spry to get up
for a dance.
The event raised a very handsome $1469 to
support the renovation of our hall, which has
recently had a kitchen and women’s bathroom
makeover. But the big winner on the night was
the community. Well done to Jannine and team
for creating a great occasion for everyone to
come together and have some fun.
