This photo was taken during one of Tairuas infamous massive summer swells.
For an east coast beach break Tairua can produce very powerfull waves, and it
still remains as one of the scariest places I have surfed in my life. My favourite
thing about Tairua beach is the fact that, more often than not, there is hardly
any crowds in the surf. I have been lucky enough to travel to several famous
surfng locations around the world but it’s always great to come home and surf
alone on one of the most beautiful beaches in New Zealand. - Sean Peggs
