We congratulate the brilliant team of mathematicians above for achieving third
place in Genesis Energy’s nationwide ‘Mean Green House Competition’
. This
competition for year 7/8 students is just one of many ways ‘Genesis Energy’ is working
to combat climate change. Students across New Zealand were challenged to design a
cutting edge, energy effcient house which used solar energy as effectively as possible.
Teams worked collaboratively to design and build a one square metre scale model of their
design. The team’s hard work and success was rewarded with a prize pack valued at
$1200, including solar learning resources, solar powered cars, hats, t-shirts and an actual
hand-crank electrical generator.

Our year six students have been working
on a marketing strategy to promote the
range of products they produce at the
school.
Our seedlings programme as well as
veggies, fertilisers and herbs will be
promoted and sold through ‘C.O.V.E’
(Chomp On Veges Everyday), the children’s
non proft marketing organisation.
This brand was created by Gregory Kern
and Jaxon Haycock then designed by Sandy
Hayward.
Recently our year 6 children launched
this brand at the Tairua Refuse Station
by planting a range of veggies solely for
community’s use. This is yet another
example of our students thinking and acting
in selfess ways, for the beneft of others.

The 2012 Wine and Food Festival, a major fundraiser for the
Tairua School for over 16 years, is shaping up to be another
fantastic event. Enjoy a family day of fun with great music and
entertainment, craft stalls, food and beverages for all tastes and
a children’s area for the young at heart. Boasting ever growing
crowds, it’s an event like no other over Christmas holidays on the
Coromandel.
Proceeds from the festival provide students access to many
opportunities, resources and activities that simply wouldn’t be
possible without community support. Every dollar earned goes
directly to the children and their programmes. Don’t miss out, mark
the 7th of January, 2012 on your calendar and come join the fun.
