The Tairua Troubadours recent show, A Medical
Drama at Tairua General Hospital, was a welcome
end to winter. If laughter is the best medicine then
Jennie Turner’s funny script ensured audiences went
away feeling much better. Pictured is the nursing
staff (l-r) Louise Elliot, Maria Cory-Wright, Lisa
Radford and PakuViews own, Rowena Brown.
Troubadours is a group of
extremely talented locals
who enjoy performing
to raise money for local
charities. This year St
John will receive $3,000
towards a defbrillator.
The popularity of the
Troubadours is spreading
far and wide with show-
goers coming to Tairua
for the weekend, joining
locals who already know
a good value night out.
Real fruit ice creams are now
available at All Things
Organic in Tairua!
A yummy way to cool off
this summer.
Choose from their selection
of organic frozen berries:
blueberries, raspberries,
strawberries, boysenberries–or a
mix, blended with organic vanilla
or yoghurt ice cream–served in a
regular or super chocolate coated
waffe cone or cup. Kiddy-sized real
fruit ice creams also available. Pop in
for a refreshing, delicious treat–ideal
for the whole family.

Ross chronicles the club’s humble beginnings as
a 9 hole course on donated land in Hikuai, to the
current outstanding 18 hole course off Main Road
in Tairua.
These guys must have really loved their golf! Ross
talks of the challenges in both the construction
of and playing on the inaugural course, including
dodging the sheep droppings on the greens. It is a
fun and interesting read with some great old photos
like the one shown of Frank Hazeldon driving the frst
offcial ball to open the course in 1966.
The time spent to organise this must have been
enormous. Well done Ross! Copies of the booklet
containing photos and anecdotes are on sale at the
Club for $20. Better hurry to get your copy. Ross
tells us there’s only a few left and they will not be
reprinted.
For the sports minded person, Tairua CC has it all.
Located on the northern side of the township of
Tairua, the club offers an 18 hole golf course, an
eight rink bowling green and four croquet lawns.
And Marine’s Kitchen is serving her delicious
meals every Friday and Saturday Night. Who would
guess all that happens at the end of the short
driveway off Main road? Check out the website:

A Pictorial History of Tairua
Golf and Country Club
by Ross Cambie
After Tairua was fooled with some fne spring
weather the frst part of August, we were surprised
by an Arctic blast that included snow and large hail
in most coastal areas.
WHAT? SNOW?!
