FUN

Kiwi

BIKES, BOARDS AND BUMPS:

Have fun on a skills challenge

course of boards, cones, planks,

seesaw, and log hop to build

confidence in riding. Set up on

the lawn next to KVC. Max: 20.

Beginners of all ages. Bring

your bike, helmet, water bottle

and sunscreen.

SINGLE TRACK SKILLS:

Come explore the Hotoritori

Mountain Bike trails and learn a few tricks for how to

ride off-road trails. Intermediate riding skills required

to ride the 10kms round trip to Hotoritori – a possible

lunch and swim stop on the way back. Max: 20. Bring

your bike, helmet, water bottle and sunscreen (togs

and towel optional).

WILDLIFE SCULPTURES:

Join Lillian and friends

getting your hands dirty turning clay blobs into native

animal figurines and take home your cool creations!

Materials supplied, instruction given. Max: 20. Gold

Coin plus $5pp materials fee. Must book before 2nd

Jan for materials purchase. All ages.

KIWI GUARDIAN ACTIVITIES:

Enjoy discovering

great activities around the KVC that go towards

earning your Kiwi Guardian badge. Work together on

the Treasure Hunt and have fun with the Giant Board

Game. Max: 10. Age 6-10. Bring sturdy footwear.

GEOCACHING:

A fun activity

that sends you hunting

for hidden objects. These

“caches” are located by

GPS reference which can

be downloaded onto smart

phones using a free app

(good old-fashioned maps

also available). Starts at KVC

with a quick intro. Max: 20. School age plus, with an

adult. Down loading the app before coming would

help, but not essential.

DARK CREATURES:

This

spell-binding talk highlights

two of NZ’s unique species

rarely seen – the short-tailed

bat and dactylanthus, our

only native fully parasitic

flowering plant, the wood

rose (right). Fabulous footage

of our bats feeding from this

fascinating plant. Meet at KVC AV room. Mature ages.

WHERE IS THE WILDLIFE?

Fun for the little ones.

Find hidden treasures in the bush with DOC ranger

Christine. Hear about how these creatures live in our

ngahere (bush). Bring big people along to help you eat

the chocolate! Max: 20. Ages 3-10.

SPECIAL DOGS PROTECTING OUR KIWI:

Meet dogs

that have been specially trained to look after our rare

species, including kiwi, by locating predators. Learn

all about them, their special skills, and what you can

do to help.

SURVIVAL SKILLS FOR THE GREAT OUTDOORS:

Learn cool tips and skills for surviving and finding

your way in the great outdoors. Great for everyone.

Age 10+. Max: 14. Bring sturdy footwear and

comfortable clothing you are happy to get wet.

BRAND NEW FUN!

Come up anytime and play on

the latest addition to the visitor’s centre – a giant

board game on the lawn – fun and learning for the

whole family.
