Business owners in Whitianga’s main street are thrilled that the upgrade

work has proceeded with haste, and with relatively little hassle. It has been

challenging for shoppers and businesses with reduced parking and a bit more

more walking to reach shops affected, as each section of the street was closed

off to traffic to undertake the very necessary infrastructure upgrades that were

so needed. But the end is nigh, and everyone is pleased to be getting ‘back

to business’ just in time for the holiday season. Shoppers report enjoying the

wider spaces, outdoor seating and the more pedestrian friendly-feel of our new

central shopping area.

Well done to all involved for a great outcome! Now all we need is fewer orange

cones, a Summer of constant sunshine and everyone will be super happy!

Laughing Pottery

in Waihi

One of my favourite places to browse. But oops! we had an

incorrect website for Andrew in our advertiser list –

.co.nz

rather than .com – and you don’t want to miss checking

it out – his new site is gorgeous. It’s another wonderful

shop to browse his unique handthrown pieces, distinctive

“ranges” of dinnerware, one-off cups for tea ceremonies,

vases and more.

Whangamata Cat Adoption Team volunteers

held a fundraising garage sale in October

to help support their busy season for cat

rescues and neutering assistance. Group

founder Victoria Cordery says over 134 cats have been neutered so far.

They are collecting goods and accepting financial donations to help

repair rust damage on their white CAT VAN. “It needs about $1800 worth

of work,” adds Victoria. “If every FB follower pitched in only a dollar

we’d be well on our way!”

They have an adorable cat tea towel for $12 plus $3p&h. “Deck the

hall with catnip mousies. Wreck the tree and blame the doggies.” The

“Blame the Doggies” towel costs $12, plus $3 postage.

Drop by Kitschy CAT’s fundraising thrift

shop to ‘purr-oooz’ the shelves for

delightful holiday gifts. This absolutely

shabulous shop offers an eclectic range

of vintage, new/used and all things

kitsch...upcycled furniture, art, gifts and

collectables. “Our delightful shop and

rescue team are manned by volunteers,

with all proceeds supporting rescues and

neutering assistance,” notes Victoria.

Kitschy CAT is at 310 Casement Rd,

Whangamata. Open Fri, Sat & Sun, 10am-

4pm, or by appt. Call/txt Victoria at 021

252 7002 and follow their activities on

FB’s Whangamata CAT page.
